Construction of ladle furnaces in BOF Shop 2
High-capacity 4 mtpa ladle furnaces have enabled the company to produce new steel grades for the automotive industry, white goods manufacturing, electrical engineering and pipe industry.
The project was implemented jointly with Siemens VAI. A 50-ktpa increase in the shop capacity enabled the processing of up to 90% of steel produced in BOF Shop No.2 in furnace-ladle units. The ladle furnaces ensure a reduction in steel treatment costs with increasing steel quality.
In 2010 – 2011 NLMK commissioned two additional ladle furnaces with the total capacity of 4 mtpa. Therefore, in total these modern facilities will process close to 12 mtpa of steel.
